Recognizing the growing challenge of climate change and rising atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) levels, the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech), in collaboration with Oman LNG through the EJAAD platform, is developing an innovative landscape design approach that combines urban greening with carbon capture and environmental sustainability.
The project aims to design and develop a pilot sustainable park, Ma Waraa (ما وراء), as a practical model for integrating carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, water-efficient landscaping, and environmental education within a single public space. Featuring a modular design, the park incorporates dedicated environmental functions, including a Carbon Capture Module that utilizes carefully selected native, drought-tolerant Omani tree species with high carbon sequestration potential. The project demonstrates how sustainable landscape architecture can support climate change mitigation while creating resilient, attractive, and environmentally responsible urban spaces.
The project is expected to deliver significant national and sustainability benefits, including:
Sultanate of Oman, Innovation Park Muscat, Al Khoud
