Title: Pretreatment Process for Oily Wastewater from Yellow Tankers

Summary

This initiative was conducted in collaboration with Sohar University and Majis through the EJAAD platform.

The project, led by Prof. Rajamohan Natarajan, Assistant Dean at the Faculty of Engineering, addressed the issue of oily wastewater discharged from yellow tankers, which often contains oil levels up to 100 mg/l, far exceeding the regulatory limit of 10 mg/l.

The objective was to design and evaluate a pretreatment solution using Enhanced Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) methods for treating both real and simulated oily wastewater. The study also explored the potential of using local waste biomass as part of the treatment process.

This initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040 by promoting sustainable resource utilization and environmental stewardship and supports Net Zero 2050 goals through pollution reduction and energy-efficient treatment methods.
