Summary

This initiative was conducted in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) through the EJAAD platform.

The project focused on enhancing the efficiency of energy and water usage—two critical but limited resources—across PDO contractor campsites in Fahud. The aim was to assess current operational practices and recommend impactful improvements across residential, office, and workshop zones.

Walkthrough audits were carried out to gather on-site data. Over 50 companies and more than 100 utility meters were analyzed between 2017 and 2019.

Key findings revealed:

• Energy consumption varied seasonally, with savings potential ranging from 22% to 55%.
• Water consumption showed minimal seasonal change.
• One company recorded 4,665.82 metric tons of CO₂ emissions in 2018, mainly due to the operation of 55 heavy trucks.

The project resulted in:

• Up to 55% energy savings potential
• Reduction of CO₂ emissions through targeted interventions
• Capacity building via training and awareness programs for contractors

This collaboration between SQU and PDO, facilitated by EJAAD, highlights the role of applied research in driving sustainable resource use and operational efficiency across Oman’s industrial sector.
